Ethnic Studies is
an interdisciplinary program available as a minor for students at the University
of Nevada, Reno. A minor in ethnic studies is offered through the collaboration
of several departments under the direction of the Ethnic Studies Board. Faculty
involved in the Ethnic Studies Program come from several disciplines. The
focus of the Program is interdisciplinary, designed to address different perspectives
and areas of knowledge and, as such, support both breadth and depth of curriculum
and scholarship.

The Ethnic Studies program is dedicated to promoting ethnic diversity among faculty and students within the University of Nevada, Reno campus. This is consistent with the mission and goals of the University which emphasize continuing commitment to diversity by reflecting and respecting the rich ethnic, gender, and cultural diversity of the citizens of Nevada in its academic and support programs as well as in the composition of its faculty, administration, staff, and student body. In addition to promoting diversity on campus, the Ethnic Studies program is committed to supporting and promoting values and ideas which emphasize academic excellence, equality, fairness, and justice. The Program discourages all forms of prejudice and discrimination on campus and in the community-at-large.
Students enrolled in the Ethnic Studies minor will be required to complete
18 credit hours. At least nine credits must be from upper-division courses
and courses must be selected from more than one department. All courses in
the minor curriculum are three credits each. Students interested in pursuing
a minor in ethnic Studies should contact the chair or a faculty member of
the Ethnic Studies Board for advisement.
