How do test scores affect my core requirements?

Your test scores determine your initial placement in your core writing and math classes.

Alternative placement methods are available for writing and math.

Writing - We recognize that your actual writing, not just your test score, should determine your final placement. If you don't believe your test score reflects your writing ability, you may request a placement evaluation. Learn more about alternative writing placement.
Math - The Mathematics Center offers an alternative placement exam for math. Students may take this exam if they wish to challenge their current placement or if they do not have ACT/SAT scores. Learn more about the alternative placement exam for math.
