    Abstract:
      This ESRI shapefile contains polygons showing the location
      of designated Wilderness Areas within the Great Basin.
    Purpose:
      For geothermal exploration. Since Wilderness Areas are off
      limits to geothermal exploration, this shapefile is
      provided as a means to exclude those areas from
      consideration as prospective geothermal targets.

      Process_Description:
        1) Shapefiles of wilderness study areas for different BLM
        districts within the Great Basin were downloaded from BLM
        and other web sites.
        2) These shapefiles were reprojected to Lambert Conformable
        Conic projection.
        3) The shapefiles were then examined for redundancy and
        overlap; redundant records were removed.
        4) The shapefiles were then combined together using the
        Union geoprocessing feature, and attributes were condensed
        into a minimum number of fields.
