These data are intended to be used as supplemental index layers to assist in referencing geographic locations within the state of Nevada. This layer was developed by the US Bureau of Mines (USBM), Western Field Operations Center, through digitizing and joining all 100k BLM surface management maps of Nevada in 1988-1990. The original publication for which the data were created was by Crandell, W.D. and M.M. Hamilton, 'Availability of Federally Owned Minerals for Exploration and Development in Western States: Nevada, 1985'; USBM Special Publication, 1990, 54 pp. The data were used by the USBM to create mine claim density maps. A copy of the data was renamed plss100k, the mining claim fields were dropped. The BLM has retained a version of the original data, named mineclaim96. March 14, 2000 The coverage was re-projected to NAD83 in compliance with WO IM-2002-066. A concatinated version of the meridian, township, range, and section attributes were also added to a new field titled "LRMTRS" to aid in joining to information queried from LR2000 and other databases.
