Welcome to the fourth season of the Argenta Concert Series at the University of Nevada, Reno! Another year of concerts, master classes, lessons, filled by unparalleled music-making of some of the most distinguished musicians from around the world.
Always trying to respond to our audience, we are bringing to Reno the award-winning Miró Quartet, one of the most celebrated ensembles in the world today, winners of Banff and Naumburg Competitions. In mid-April, they will perform not one, but two back-to-back performances of contrasting repertoire. Another performance, long-awaited by our patrons, will happen in March: a Liederabend with baritone Randall Scarlata. Schumann’s Dichterliebe , in collaboration with Hyeyeon Park, will be the jewel of that evening. The University’s Argenta Trio will be featured in three performances throughout the year, two of them highlighting magnificent works by Franz Schubert.
In October, we will enjoy the visit by the stunning two-time Grammy-nominated flutist Tara Helen O’Connor and the captivating violinist Daniel Phillips, founder of the Orion String Quartet. Other incredible instrumentalists to visit us include the recipient of Gramophone “Record of the Year” legendary violinist Cho-Liang Lin and the principal horn of Houston Symphony, William VerMeulen.
The May season finale promises to be one of the most exciting performances on record, as it combines the legendary mastery of David Shifrin with the youthful energy of rising stars clarinetist Romie de Guise-Langlois and violinist Arnaud Sussmann. It will not only be a celebration of the clarinet, but also a celebration of another year of chamber music and the fifth season announcement.
Finally, we would like to thank all those who contribute to make the Argenta Concert Series a reality. With your generosity and support we are able to bring month after month of great chamber music to our community.
