We are so excited to greet you for our Sixth Season of incredible music, the great artistry of our invited musicians, and some of the most beloved and engaging repertoire. We know that you will not be able to miss any of our concerts, as well as multiple free events that we have in store for you this year. Alongside the three concerts by the University’s Argenta Trio, we are happy to present six more performances that will surely exceed all your expectations; for that we must thank the generosity of all our supporters, who make our series worthy of any world venue!
On Thursday, October 6, we begin our guest artist appearances with a hard-to-top event. Pianist Wu Han, violinist Philip Setzer, and cellist David Finckel are among the nation’s chamber music royalty; they will bring their magical technical refinement and unparalleled musical expressivity, honed by many years of collaboration, to the music of Dvořák and Schubert.
On Tuesday, November 8, we welcome the spectacular Dover Quartet, who has been already declared by The New Yorker “the young American string quartet of the moment.” The winners of the prestigious Banff Competition, they perform more than 120 concerts annually and we are lucky to be able to secure them and hear their spellbinding renditions of Mozart, Britten and Beethoven.
On Thursday, March 9, Reno will be visited by another major figure in American music-making: the esteemed pianist Gilbert Kalish. A major educator and a champion of both the classics and new music, Mr. Kalish will deliver an unforgettable evening of solo and piano-four-hands music (in collaboration with Hyeyeon Park), culminating with a spectacular rendition of Schubert’s monumental B-flat Sonata.
On Tuesday, April 4, the Nightingale Hall will resonate with the vibrations of 16 strings embodied in four cellos. In the hands of Clive Greensmith, Mihai Marica, John-Henry Crawford, and Dmitri Atapine, these four “most noble” instruments will take our listeners on a wonderful journey exploring the cello music of Bach and Chopin, as well as rarely-heard cello ensemble pieces by such masters as Popper and Fitzenhagen.
We conclude our season on Thursday, May 4, in a most exciting way by partnering once more with the distinguished Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. The Society’s artists, among them clarinetist David Shifrin, violinists Bella Hristova and Danbi Um, violist Mark Holloway, and pianist Gloria Chien, will delight us with music of Bartok and Shostakovich and join us in celebrating our Sixth Season with the perennial Mozart Clarinet Quintet.
In addition to this incredible season we are adding an extra concert on Tuesday, March 28, for the long-awaited visit by the pianist Leon Fleisher, joined in duo by the fabulous Katherine Jacobson. Do not miss our first pre-concert talk associated with the performance.
May chamber music embrace you for another spectacular year!
